Troubleshooting GPS Issues

Updated over a week ago

Radarbot needs a little time to display your location. If your device cannot locate your position, please check that:

  • The device is NOT inside a building, a tunnel or in a place where GPS satellite signals are blocked by other solid objects. As GPS signals cannot penetrate solid objects, it may take longer for the signal to reach you. Therefore, any troubleshooting related to GPS should be carried out outdoors, under clear skies, with no buildings or other large objects in the way.

  • Location services in your device settings are enabled. This setting must be enabled at all times when using a GPS navigation app.

  • Network coverage is not overloaded. In areas of high demand or with a weak mobile signal, it may take the app longer to acquire your position.

If you experience any of the following issues, Radarbot may report incorrect locations and fail to display your actual location, which can affect driving accuracy.

Below is a list of issues that may arise from a GPS signal failure:

  1. GPS deviation: The GPS route deviates from the road. You may notice that the route generally follows the shape of the road, but with much less precision.

  2. GPS signal lost: If the GPS signal is lost and then reacquired some time later, the points before and after the signal loss will be treated like any other pair of points (even though more time has elapsed between them) and will be connected by a straight line.

  3. GPS bounce: An ‘unstable’ GPS route can cause your app to report speed camera locations in the wrong places, as every ‘zigzag’ in your GPS route has to be accounted for with a straight line connecting them.

What to do if you receive the message ‘GPS signal lost’

If a ‘GPS signal lost’ message appears, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Check Location Services

  2. Check the date and time settings

  3. Check battery saver mode

  4. Restart your device

  5. Check that the app is up to date

  6. Clear the cache (Android only)

  7. Check the GPS status

  8. Check the GPS accuracy

  9. Contact the manufacturer
